Leeds have been linked with a Newcastle player ahead of the January window.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell proved a lot of doubters wrong on Tuesday night as he saved a penalty with an excellent stop to deny Reading’s Marc McNulty. But Leeds United remain reportedly interested in a Newcastle United star.

Leeds are said to be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, after Jamal Blackman broke his leg earlier this month when turning out for the club’s Under-23 side. Peacock-Farrell missed Saturday’s game with a knock to his knee.

It saw rookie goalkeeper Will Huffer start between the sticks. Blackman has returned to parent club Chelsea, with Huffer expected to warm the bench between now and the January window.

The Evening Chronicle claim that Leeds are now interested in signing Freddie Woodman from Newcastle United on loan in the January window, which is likely to see the England Under-20 World Cup winner rival Peacock-Farrell.

If the Whites do sign Woodman, it would see Huffer move down the pecking order into third, while Polish stopper Kamil Miazek would be fourth choice and struggling for game time even in the club’s reserve side.

At 22 years, Miazek is at the stage of his career where he should be getting regular first-team football or at least pushing for a place. But he simply has not done that, since joining from second-tier Polish side Chojniczanka in October 2017.

If Woodman signs, Miazek will become fourth choice and there will simply be no chance of him breaking into Marcelo Bielsa’s side. With his contract set to expire in the summer, Leeds and Miazek must look for a January exit.
