Bailey Peacock-Farrell has taken to Twitter to reflect on what proved to be a bittersweet day for the Leeds goalkeeper as he made his first start for Northern Ireland in their Nations League defeat.

Peacock-Farrell spoke in the week about rejecting an approach to switch his international allegiance to England. He reiterated his desire to stick with Michael O’Neill’s men and he has now taken the option to switch to the country of his birth out of the equation by starting Saturday’s clash with Bosnia-Herzegovina at Windsor Park.

It was an extremely encouraging performance from Northern Ireland, but the game was to end in disappointment as Bosnia came away with a 2-1 victory. The goal that proved to be the winner involved a mix-up between Peacock-Farrell and defender Craig Cathcart.

After the game, the Whites stopper took to social media to comment on making his first start for the country as well as the defeat itself ahead of the upcoming friendly with Israel.

Despite the loss, it was another landmark day for Peacock-Farrell in what is already threatening to be a fantastic season for the Leeds goalkeeper. He is currently the number one at Elland Road despite Marcelo Bielsa’s men adding Jamal Blackman to their side in the summer.

And if he could establish himself as Northern Ireland’s first-choice, then that would undoubtedly provide the Leeds ace with another huge boost of confidence after a difficult spell before he got the chance to make the grade with club and country earlier this year.
