Leeds United defender Maximilian Wober has admitted that he is missing Jesse Marsch at the club after the American was sacked last month following a string of poor results.
Speaking to Sky Sport Austria, the £11m January recruitment from RB Salzburg revealed that his former manager was a key reason as to why Wober even signed for Leeds in the first place, with Marsch using his Red Bull contacts to bring the 25-year-old Vienna-born defender to Yorkshire in the winter.
Wober said on whether he missed Marsch being at Leeds: “Of course, I miss Jesse. I made this move because he was keen to bring me to Leeds. But that’s the business of football, everything can change. If the successes don’t come, the coach is the first to vacate the pitch.”
Despite Marsch’s dismissal, Wober has remained a key fixture for the Whites, with the defender starting the last seven Premier League matches. And under new Leeds boss Javi Gracia, the Austrian international has become a key player for the Spanish coach.

Indeed, whilst Marsch was the key reason behind Wober making the leap to the Premier League, it’s a testament to the defender’s quality that the 25-year-old is still a regular for the Elland Road side even with the American long-gone. And the former Salzburg star could be huge in keeping Leeds up this season.
As we know, the Whites face the gruelling task of trying to avoid relegation for the second season in a row, and Wober’s defensive performance for Leeds will be instrumental if Gracia is to do what many feel like is impossible and keep the Yorkshire giants in the English top-flight for another season.
Wober can make Marsch proud by keeping Leeds in the Premier League

Wober is one of many players who signed for Leeds on the back of working for Marsch, and with the American now gone, the defender, alongside the likes of Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie, can make their former coach proud by keeping the Yorkshire side up in the Premier League.
With two months of the season left to go, Leeds have the time to get back to winning ways and to start climbing up the table, and for Wober, the defender will have to be at his career-best if he is to help his new club retain their top-flight status without his former manager Marsch at the helm.
