Junior Firpo has said he had offers to leave Leeds United in the summer transfer window following a rough first season in the Premier League with the Elland Road side.

In an interview with Sport, the 26-year-old defender revealed that he feels more comfortable in England than ever before, with Firpo enduring a difficult year with the Whites having been signed by Marcelo Bielsa from FC Barcelona in the summer of 2021.

However, rumours circulated just one year after joining Leeds that Firpo was ready to leave. However, the defender is now enjoying his football, with the fullback saying: “I am more than comfortable. Last year I had offers to leave and there were opportunities for me. But in this team, I am finding myself as a player and I am enjoying my football.”

With El Desmarque reporting that Real Betis were interested in signing Firpo in January, links of a move away from Elland Road still continue to follow the former Barcelona defender. However, the Dominican Republic-born star has kept his feet firm over remaining at Elland Road.

Starting the last three Premier League matches, there’s a good chance that Firpo will be given a chance to impress under new manager Javi Gracia, who will have to work quickly to get the best out of Leeds if they’re to avoid a shock relegation back down to the Championship.

Indeed, whilst Firpo has made just eight starts in all competitions this season, the defender is seemingly intent on making a name for himself at Elland Road, and the fact the fullback is no longer thinking about leaving Yorkshire is an encouraging sign for supporters and Gracia.

Making the jump from La Liga to the Premier League can be a difficult one for some players, and Firpo fell into this category last season when joining Leeds from Barcelona. However, the defender made the right choice in staying with the club rather than quitting at the first sign of trouble.

Whilst Firpo isn’t a regular for Leeds this season, things can change quickly under Gracia, and the Spanish international will be eager to impress under his new boss, who will want his players in top form if they’re to save the club from relegation.
