Leeds signing James and Montero would be a blow to Jack Harrison

Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing both Dan James and Jefferson Montero this month.

It was reported by The Sun on Sunday (13/1; page 59) at the weekend that Leeds were considering moves for both Dan James and Jefferson Montero.

The Whites are four points clear at the top of the Championship, but many of their fans have been imploring the club to get new signings through the door after a torrid run of luck with injuries.

And Marcelo Bielsa appears to be keen to add to his numbers as well, with The Sun on Sunday (13/1; page 59) reporting that Leeds are plotting a £2.5 million bid for James, while Swansea teammate Montero is wanted on loan.

James, in particular, could be a seriously exciting signing for the promotion-chasers. Montero is arguably much more of a wildcard, but that could prove to be exactly what Bielsa’s men need during the business end of the season.

But if Leeds manage to pull off the stunning double raid, perhaps that could be a real blow for Jack Harrison.

The 22-year-old has struggled for much of his loan spell at Elland Road. For several months, his stunning performance against Preston North End seemed to be the one example from his Leeds spell of what the Manchester City-owned winger is capable of.

However, he has seemingly turned a corner lately. He looked much better in the dramatic win against Blackburn, providing the assist for the opening goal.

The youngster was then unlucky to be taken off at half-time during the defeat to Nottingham Forest as he was arguably Leeds’ most exciting player during the first-half.

And on Friday, he scored the second goal in the win against Derby. His partnership with Gjanni Alioski down the left was superb and probably would have left many managers believing that they had all the wide options they needed, with Jack Clarke tearing everything apart on the other flank.

If James and Montero arrive, there is obviously no guarantee that Harrison would lose his starting place while he remains in form. But after a turbulent spell so far, Harrison is perhaps under pressure to ensure that his recent momentum continues to build as he could get be in for a frustrating few months if Bielsa manages to get the two targets through the door.
