Leeds United should pay attention to Alan Judge’s situation.
Leeds United’s manager Garry Monk
Garry Monk has made no secret of the fact Leeds United needed wingers, signing three wide men on loan during the past three transfer windows.
There is no certainty than any of Hadi Sacko, Alfonso Pedraza and Mo Barrow will be retained, let alone all of them.
Which is why the Whites taking a gamble on soon to be out of contract Alan Judge would be a shrewd move on a free transfer in the summer.
Judge has not featured at all this season due to a broken leg, but Leeds should not let this deter them considering the fact he would be such an inexpensive gamble to take.
Alan Judge celebrates after scoring for Brentford
In 2015/16 Judge tore up the Championship, scoring 14 goals for the Bees and providing 11 assists.
If Leeds could get him in their side and scoring half the number of goals, he would be their second highest scorer this season, with the Whites struggling for regular goalscorers outside of the prolific Chris Wood.
They will face competition for his signature, with Newcastle United long term admirers, but the interest of Rafa Benitez’s side only underlines the quality Judge has and why Leeds should get involved in the battle for his signature.
Judge features on HITC Sport’s list of the top 50 free agents, and while there is an element of risk involved due to his fitness struggles this season, the potential upside makes him worth the gamble, and in any case the Whites would get a chance to do their due diligence with medical examinations.
The winger is still just 28, and if he can replicate the success of his former Brentford teammate Stuart Dallas at Leeds then he could become a real fan favourite.
