Next up for Leeds United is a game against Cardiff City.

Thomas Christiansen manager of Leeds United looks on before the Carabao Cup Third Round match between Burnley and Leeds United at Turf Moor on September 19, 2017 in Burnley, England.

Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen sprang something of a surprise when he opted not to select Pontus Jansson for the match against Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Ultimately it did not matter, with the Whites running out 3-2 winners in an entertaining match, but the upcoming game against Cardiff City should see the Swede return to the starting line-up along with another battle-hardened defender in the form of Gaetano Berardi.

Cardiff are a no-nonsense side under Neil Warnock and Leeds need all the muscle they can get to keep the Bluebirds at bay and maintain their excellent start to the new season.

Leeds youngster Conor Shaughnessy has impressed since moving into the heart of defence, but against Cardiff Christiansen needs to partner Liam Cooper with Jansson, while also favouring Berardi over Vurnon Anita at left-back.

The former Newcastle United man has been superb since arriving at Elland Road, but it is time Berardi returned to the fold and staked his claim for a regular starting spot.

Leeds may be top of the table as things stand, but Cardiff are hot on their heels and will leapfrog them with a victory this week.

Their toughest match of the season to date means some tough decisions in when it comes to the starting line-up, and Christiansen needs to get it right or risk a setback just when he needs his side building up another head of steam.
