Leeds United should consider Wolves defender Danny Batth.

Leeds United reportedly tried and failed to sign Wolves defender Danny Batth last summer – and their need for a new centre-back remains.

The Express reported last July how the print edition of The Sun claimed Leeds held interest in Batth, along with teammate Matt Doherty.

Batth wanted to stick around at his boyhood club, and he has been rewarded by seeing Wolves finally clinch promotion to the Premier League.

The big problem for club captain Batth, is that he has been a peripheral figure.

Batth has played in only 13 of a possible 43 Championship games so far, and last featured back on March 10.

His placed has been take by Conor Coady, who has struck up a partnership with Willy Boly.

If the situation was to stay as it is, Batth could play a role next season, but Wolves’ ambition means he is going to be up against it.

The newly promoted side are going to be big spenders upon reaching the Premier League, and this will likely mean adding players in all key positions, including defence.

Another centre-back would push Batth further down the pecking order, and leave him at risk of barely featuring at all next season.

Leeds only patched up in central defence last summer, adding the unimpressive Matthew Pennington on loan from Everton.

It remains a glaring need, and a move for Batth, 27, would make sense for the Whites, adding a leader with Championship experience alongside Pontus Jansson.

The problem is that Batth may not want to give up playing for his boyhood club in the Premier League, it’s his dream after all.

Yet if he isn’t going to get games, it could be futile to stay and be a spectator, and Batth may have to make a heartbreaking decision.
