Leeds should reignite 2016 interest in Celtic’s Tom Rogic

Tom Rogic was left on Celtic’s bench by Brendan Rodgers as Leeds suffered a sixth defeat in seven.

Tom Rogic was left on the Celtic substitutes’ bench by Brendan Rodgers once again this season as the Hoops fought bravely against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

The 24-year-old was introduced in the 64th minute by Rodgers, but he is likely to be frustrated at missing out even despite the absence of Manchester City loanee Patrick Roberts.

Australia international Rogic has started just 13 of his 21 league and cup outings but will be wondering what he has to do to earn a regular starting spot, as he continues to show his raw talent with four goals and six assists from midfield.

It has seen the former Central Coast Mariners ace fail to start crucial Bhoys matches including both fixtures against Bayern Munich, as well as the loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

With just over a year and a half remaining on Rogic’s contract at Parkhead, clubs could begin to circle around Celtic’s number 18.

Championship giants Leeds United suffered a sixth defeat in their last seven outings against Derby County on Tuesday night and are in desperate need of an injection of creativity and flair, as they look to gain promotion come May 2018.

The Yorkshire outfit know all about Rogic, after the Yorkshire Evening Post claimed he was a £1million target for former boss Steve Evans back in January 2016.

Leeds current playmakers are yet to hit the heights expected of them, with only Samu Saiz showing the kind of guile and desire required to end Leeds’ 13-year stay in the Football League.

Adding Rogic’s wand of a left foot, his vision and his eye for goal would give Leeds all the tools required in the final third to unlock their Championship opponents and outscore their way to the second-tier summit.

The only stumbling block is likely to be convincing Rogic that a move to Elland Road will benefit him, but the chances of a potential promotion to the Premier League could just be enough to see Rogic light up the Yorkshire faithful.
