Leeds United have enjoyed a promising start to life back in the Premier League, but the last few games have been a little disappointing.

Two 4-1 defeats to Leicester City and Crystal Palace have somewhat taken the shine off a strong start to the campaign, and the absence of Kalvin Phillips was felt.

The midfielder has been out with a shoulder injury, and Leeds have struggled to find anybody to step in and replicate his influence in the side.

Leeds may well need to find another midfielder who can give Marcelo Bielsa greater depth, and they should look to a former Whites ace in Lewis Cook.

The Bournemouth star has played a key role for the Cherries this season, having previously endured some injury problems during his time at Bournemouth.

Cook came through the Leeds ranks and notched two goals in 85 games before leaving for Bournemouth in 2016, where he has now played 96 times.

Cook is still only 23, and he not only has the passing range and defensive work rate to play in Phillips’s role, but also the technical ability and energy to also cover for Mateusz Klich’s more box-to-box role.

The midfielder grew up supporting Leeds, so would surely relish a return to Elland Road if it was on offer to him, and he just appears to be a great fit for Bielsa’s style of play and what Leeds are looking for right now.

The Daily Star noted in August that Leeds want to re-sign Cook for around £15million, more than double the £6million they sold him for – and if that price is still realistic come January or next summer, then Leeds should certainly explore an emotional return for Cook.
