Leeds United desperately need a new goalkeeper to provide competition for Bailey Peacock-Farrell and they are at risk of missing out on a quality solution.

Manchester United talent Joel Pereira has just been recalled from his spell at Portuguese top flight side Vitoria, with the Red Devils keen to send him to the Championship.

The 6ft 2″ goalkeeper is said to be in line for a move to strugglers Reading, who sit 23rd in the Championship, The Mail report.

The Mail’s report claims other unnamed Championship clubs are interested, and Leeds should be getting amongst the mix.

Pereira, 22, has already represented Manchester United’s first team three times and has been a regular for Portugal’s under-21 side.

The young goalkeeper is seen as a potential heir to David de Gea at Old Trafford and club chiefs need to choose his next loan move wisely.

Giving him the chance to work under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds would be ideal, with Pereira getting the chance to fight for promotion.

The Yorkshire Evening Post this week reported Leeds rejected the chance to sign 35-year-old Michel Vorm, which fits with Bielsa’s mode of rarely signing older players.

A move for a young goalkeeper like Pereira would replicate the deal for Chelsea youngster Jamal Blackman, who suffered a season ending injury in the Autumn.

Blackman was on the verge of replacing Peacock-Farrell in the first team, and Pereira would stand a chance of winning the number one job if he is signed.

If they don’t move quickly, Pereira will be heading to Reading or another Championship side instead.
