If Wolverhampton Wanderers keep Ruben Vinagre at Molineux, Leeds United should ask about a loan.
The Express and Sport reported on Tuesday that Wolverhampton Wanderers have agreed a £10 million deal to sign Willy Boly, and that a long-term move for Diogo Jota is also in the works.
But Wolves have a number of other loanees whose futures are less certain, but the report added that Nuno Espirito Santo could keep Ruben Vinagre due to his “huge potential”.
The 19-year-old defender only managed nine Championship outings since joining on loan from Monaco last summer, and failed to earn a single minute of league football in 2018.
If Wolves do sign him then it’s clear that it’ll be with a long-term view in mind, because he’s hardly going to be starting Premier League games next season, but Leeds United should ask about signing him for the 2018-19 campaign if Wanderers do tie up a permanent deal.
Leeds could do with a left-back. Apart from the promising Tom Pearce, United only have Laurens De Bock and Tyler Denton as recognised left-backs and someone of Vinagre’s talent could be a big plus.
De Bock struggled for form and fitness since his £1.5 million move from Club Brugge in January, while Denton, who turns 23 in September, probably would not have been on loan at Port Vale last term if Director of Football Victor Orta fancied his chances of making it in West Yorkshire.
Vinagre might be a bit rough around the edges at the moment, but Wolves, who presumably have designs on staying in the Premier League for the long term, wouldn’t sign him if he was a dud and a season-long loan at Leeds could enable him to return to Molineux a year from now a more polished player.
