Leeds should join race for Tom Rogic if promoted after £5m bid reports

Leeds United were reportedly one of the sides to make a seven-figure bid for Tom Rogic in the past.

It has been reported by the Daily Record that Leeds are one of the Championship sides to have made a bid for Tom Rogic during his time at Celtic, with the Hoops knocking back offers of around £5 million for the Australian in the past.

The Record is now reporting that Southampton and Leicester City are keen on Rogic this summer, with Celtic ready to sell the 26-year-old should they receive a bid of around £15 million.

He has struggled with injury during his time at Parkhead, but if – and it is a big if at this stage – Leeds are promoted to the Premier League, they should consider going back in for Rogic.

Following Samu Saiz’s January exit, the Whites have somewhat struggled to fill the number 10 role. Tyler Roberts has been outstanding at times, but he is still learning the role having arrived as a striker who appeared to have the potential to also play out wide.

With that in mind, Rogic could be a fantastic addition to Leeds’ ranks if they do have a Premier League campaign to prepare for this summer.

It would be a big gamble as the midfielder has struggled for form and fitness at times. But he has the piece of magic up his sleeve that could make him a real asset to any top flight side if he did head south of the border.

Some fans have doubted those coming from the Scottish Premiership in the past. But there are a number of former Celtic players plying their trade in the Premier League, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama and Stuart Armstrong all proving to be bargain signings.

If Leeds are promoted and Bielsa is given a substantial transfer budget to play with, it seems unlikely that he will look to make wholesale changes, instead opting to make a handful of marquee additions.

Targeting Rogic would be a risk. But it would have the potential to be an inspired move as Leeds perhaps consider adding to their options behind the striker.
