Leeds should have kept Rob Green – Andy Couzens

Leeds United brought in an influx of new signings in the summer after the addition of Victor Orta.

Former Leeds United midfielder Andy Couzens has claimed on Twitter that the Whites should not have sold veteran goalkeeper Rob Green to Premier League side Huddersfield Town in the summer.

Green, 37, joined Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield on a 12-month contract after Leeds had signed German goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald with the intention of making the former Werder Bremen ace the club’s number one stopper.

It convinced Green to join the Premier League newbies, with the Whites bringing in Andy Lonergan as back-up. The latter has since become Christiansen’s number one goalkeeper due to the poor form of Wiedwald.

Couzens also claimed Leeds had no choice when it came to selling Charlie Taylor and Chris Wood to Burnley, while stating Swansea gave the Whites no chance in making Kyle Bartley’s season-long loan a permanent move.

New Zealand international Wood joined Burnley for a fee of £15million towards the end of the summer, while academy product Taylor joined the Lancashire club after his contract ended at Elland Road. Leeds were paid a compensation figure.

Bartley was one of the mainstays of Leeds’ 2016-17 season, making 50 appearances in all competitions. However, Swansea boss Paul Clement barred a permanent move to Yorkshire in the summer.

The Whites have been in terrible recent form with fans ruing the club’s decision to sell the likes of Wood and Green, but Christiansen will be looking to ease some of the pressure on his shoulders with a win against Barnsley on Saturday.
