Leeds United reportedly missed out on Inter striker Facundo Colidio.
Leeds United landed one striker on deadline day by snapping up Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah on loan, but they also appear to have missed out on one.
The Whites were heavily linked with a deal for Inter Milan striker Facundo Colidio, with FC Inter News reporting that the move was supposed to be worth around €6million (£5.5million).
It would have been a loan with a view to a permanent deal, and Inter were working hard to get an even bigger fee, and Leeds just couldn’t get a move over the line before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
Colidio may still be on the move, with the European market still open, and a surprise move to Belgium appears to be on the cards.
Het Belang van Limburg have published a photo of Colidio exiting a taxi after undergoing a medical with Sint-Truiden, having seemingly agreed a move to the Belgian First Division A side, where he will be playing alongside ex-Leeds winger Jordan Botaka.
The 19-year-old Argentinian will now look to thrive in Belgium, but that shouldn’t be the end of Victor Orta’s interest in bringing him to Elland Road.
Yes, Colidio is highly regarded, but he’s never played men’s senior football before. This is his first real taste of that level, and we’ll learn a lot about the striker over the next year.
If Colidio thrives in Belgium, and shows that he can be a regular goalscorer, resurrecting a move next summer would possibly be even better for Leeds, as they’d be getting a more experienced Colidio, rather than a raw kid.
Orta should absolutely keep tabs on Colidio for a future move, and whilst Thursday’s move didn’t go through, an exciting talent like Colidio should be kept on the radar for a while yet.
