Leeds United’s defensive issues are showing no signs of abating.

Luke Ayling and Gaetano Berardi were already out of action with knee and hamstring injuries respectively.

On Wednesday, Leeds confirmed a further blow to their back line personnel as Liam Cooper was ruled out for the festive period.

The captain had to come off inside the opening 25 minutes of Leeds’ 1-0 win at Sheffield United last Saturday.

Now, the club has announced on their official website that Cooper is expected to be out for “under six weeks”, also confirming that Stuart Dallas will miss four to six weeks.

Over the last few weeks, momentum has picked up among Leeds fans regarding a prospective move for former Leicester City defender Robert Huth, currently a free agent.

The German is a three-time Premier League champion – twice with Chelsea, once with Leicester – and has clocked over 320 appearances in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

Admittedly, Huth didn’t make a single appearance for the Foxes last season and was troubled by ankle injuries, according to Transfermarkt.

But given his obvious pedigree at top level, not to mention the success of other veteran defenders recently snapped up on short-term deals by Championship clubs – Angel Rangel at QPR, James Collins at Aston Villa – it’s a low-risk move which could be worth pursuing.
