Leeds United reportedly want one West Bromwich Albion target, and should continue taking on the Baggies for another.
The Championship leaders have taken a while to really get going this month. Kiko Casilla is their only signing so far, but it appears that the Whites’ recruitment team are looking to step up their plans during the remaining days of the window, with Mings not the only player to be recently linked.
After struggling to come up with ideas in the defeat at Stoke last weekend, it appears a very smart move from Bielsa and Victor Orta to add more quality in wide areas.
But if they prove unable to sign James or O’Dowda, perhaps Mings should not be the only player that Leeds rival West Brom for, amid reports that the Baggies have their eye on Major League Soccer winger Alberth Elis.
The Sun (23/1; page 51) reported Darren Moore is also leading the race to sign Elis, who has just completed a season with Houston Dynamo where he scored 11 goals and provided nine assists.
Elis has now scored 22 goals across the last two campaigns. His form suggests that he could be a seriously dangerous acquisition if he heads to the Championship, and he should arguably be the kind of player that Leeds should have a look at if they fail to sign the likes of James and O’Dowda.
He is, admittedly, more comfortable on the right – Elis can also play up front – whereas Bielsa’s targets are better on the other flank. But Leeds have options who can already play on that side if the Honduras international did arrive.
So if James and O’Dowda do not prove to be Elland Road-bound this month, Leeds should consider following up their Mings interest by also joining their promotion rivals in the race to sign the 22-year-old.
