Alfonso Pedraza has looked bright since joining Leeds United on loan during the January transfer window.

With Leeds’ promotion hopes over for another campaign, the Whites have surely missed out on the chance to make Alfonso Pedraza’s loan spell at Elland Road a permanent one, but that does not mean that the club should not try and keep the Spaniard for next season.

When the 21-year-old signed for Leeds at the end of the January transfer window, a clause in the deal meant that the Whites would be able to sign Pedraza permanently for £8.5 million in the summer if they won promotion to the top flight (via Yorkshire Evening Post).

And while that shipped has now sailed, Leeds should surely do everything they can to ensure that Pedraza remains in Yorkshire again next season, even if that is for another loan deal.

The winger has been a great addition to Monk’s squad. Not only does he carry a threat going forward, and clearly has the ability to test the goalkeeper from distance – something that Leeds’ squad have arguably not done enough this term – but he is also not afraid to get stuck in and offer defensive support.

And while Pedraza has not always made the right decisions out on the pitch when he has the ball at his feet, there is surely no doubt that having him in the squad once again next term would boost the Whites’ hopes of securing promotion, especially with a full pre-season under his belt.

It may not be possible to make a move happen as Pedraza’s loan spells at Lugo and Leeds this term have shown that he has a huge amount of potential, but keeping him in some capacity next term would send out a great statement about the Whites’ hopes of bouncing back from the disappointment of this season and would undoubtedly boost their chances of contending for promotion again next year.
