Leeds are set to beat Middlesbrough to Matthew Pennington.
Pennington is set to sign a one year loan deal deal with the Whites, and it is a big opportunity for him to establish himself as a regular at the Championship club, who are in need of centre-backs.
It is also another small victory over Middlesbrough, with The Sunday Mirror (print edition, page 61, July 9, 2017) reporting the Teessiders were also keen on the defender.
Everton’s Matthew Pennington
Boro are managed by former Leeds boss Garry Monk, who also tried to hijack their move for Poland midfielder Mateusz Klich, SkySports reported.
Monk though would later hit back by winning the race ex-Leeds midfielder Jonny Howson, who the Whites were keen to bring back.
New Middlesbrough manager Garry Monk
Middlesbrough’s need for Pennington had been dimmed by the fact they have so far held onto star centre-back Ben Gibson, and Leeds can offer him a better shot of first team football – although this could change if Boro cash in on the England international.
It is up to Pennington to show that moving to Leeds on loan is a reason for Whites fan to cheer and Boro fans and Monk to be disappointed over. For now the jury is still out on the youngster.
