Ryan Edmondson’s tweet may hint that he is not overly happy with Leeds United’s decision to release Joshua Rae.
Ryan Edmondson has taken to Twitter to respond to a post from Joshua Rae, and it seems that the striker does not appear to be in favour of Leeds’ decision to release the goalkeeper this summer.
The Whites confirmed on their official website last week that Rae was one of three academy players that would not be offered a new contract at Elland Road. And it is probably fair to say that the decision on the stopper was the most surprising.
Rae spent two years on Leeds’ books following his exit from Celtic. Unfortunately for the Scot, he was competing in a position where the Whites have so many options across various levels, with the likes of Kiko Casilla, Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Will Huffer, Kamil Miazek and Harrison Male all arguably ahead of him in the pecking order.
But following the Premier League Cup game against Fulham in March, it appeared that Rae may still be a name to look out for as he marked his under-23 debut by making a vital save in the penalty shootout as Leeds went through.
With the goalkeeper now looking for his next club, he posted a video of that penalty save on Twitter and expressed his hope that he would go on to have plenty more moments like that during his career.
And in response, Edmondson sent some words of encouragement to his former teammate. While the striker will understand the decision that the club has made – particularly given how many goalkeepers the club have got on their books – it does seem fair to say that his message hints that he would have liked to have seen Rae kept on for another year.
