Leeds United could not resist a dig at Derby County on Twitter after their Championship play-off final defeat.
It appears that Leeds have little interest in leaving their rift with Derby behind them heading into next season as the club’s official Twitter account trolled the Rams following their play-off final defeat.
Frank Lampard’s men will be playing Championship football again next year after they were beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa at Wembley. It had appeared that the Villans would almost coast into the Premier League as they held a 2-0 lead during the second-half.
But Jack Marriott’s introduction led to Derby earning a lifeline as his effort seemed to clip Martyn Waghorn on its way into the back of the net with nine minutes remaining.
However, Villa saw the game out and booked their ticket to the top flight. And Leeds could not resist taking a swipe at the Rams as they responded to a message sent by Niall Horan in the wake of their play-off semi-final defeat.
The former One Direction star mocked Leeds for failing to reach Wembley as they became the first team to squander a half-time lead in a play-off semi-final having played the first-leg away from home, making reference to how many times he and his club have played at the national stadium.
But Leeds produced a similarly-ruthless response after Monday’s play-off final as they slammed Derby’s performance on the day and made reference to Elland Road faithful’s chant dedicated to Lampard.
