If rumours are believed, Leeds United are ready to break their transfer record on bringing Said Benrahma to Elland Road.
Premier League promotion is worth nine figures to the West Yorkshire club and they’re ready to spend big on signing the Brentford winger for £23.5 million, according to Le Buteur.
This would be brilliant news for Leeds because Benrahma is one of the most exciting players in the Championship and he’s destined for bigger and better things.
But it might not be such good news for Jack Harrison.
Harrison has had two loan spells under Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa and it remains to be seen if he’s going to be signed permanently from Manchester City, who have agreed to send him on a third loan next term.
He played a big role in helping the Whites to promotion this season but, honestly, Benrahma, also a left-winger, blows him out of the water in terms of productivity.
Since the start of the 2018-19 campaign, Harrison has scored 10 goals and set up 12 for United in the Championship. Benrahma has scored 28 and assisted 26.
Bielsa is clearly a huge fan of Harrison, but if his numbers are only decent by Championship standard then how is he going to fare against Premier League full-backs?
Leeds were quoted £20 million to sign him outright last summer [The Sun] and although it would be £10 million cheaper now [MEN], Benrahma is still a much better long-term investment for football and financial reasons.
The 24-year-old has already been linked with a move to Arsenal and if he lights up the Premier League, like he has done the Championship, then £23.5 million could be a snip in comparison to what he could be worth in a few years.
