Leeds have reportedly added Jesse Marsch to a three-man managerial list to potentially replace Marcelo Bielsa. A gaffer that Brenden Aaronson branded a “great guy” in 2021, praising his work with younger players.
Bielsa is out of contract at the end of the season and while that is nothing new, given Bielsa likes to work on a 12-month rolling contract. But there are murmurs that this could be the Argentine’s final season at Elland Road.
David Anderson from the Mirror reports that Leeds want to keep him – meaning the decision is up to the current Whites gaffer. The Telegraph report that Leeds have a contingency plan in place if Bielsa does depart.
Along with ex-Leipzig gaffer Marsch, Leeds are also considering Ernesto Valverde and Carlos Corberan. But with Aaronson a player Leeds want to sign in the summer, Marsch could be the favourite after working with him.
Speaking about Marsch, Aaronson told SBI Soccer in 2021: “I’m extremely excited to be under him. You can see what he’s done with young players. Truly excited. He’s a great guy. I hope I can keep developing under him.”
Aaronson on Marsch: American gaffer is perfect for Leeds
Really, he is a younger version of Bielsa. Attacking, free-flowing football that gets fans off their seats – is combined by excellent transfer acumen and a faith in younger players. Marsch is a manager liked by many.
He has won numerous titles in Austria and while a move to a stuttering Leipzig has not worked out, Marsch is likely to be in demand come the summer. Leeds want to sign Aaronson, regardless if Bielsa is there or not.
Having Marsch tutor Aaronson, a player that is expected to leave in the summer, will only help Marsch if he does arrive at Elland Road. Not many will want Bielsa to go, but if he does, Marsch is the ideal replacement.
