Leeds United are one of several clubs to have ‘taken information’ on a player dubbed ‘the new Luka Modric’, according to a report in Italy.
Calciomercato credits Leeds, Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla, Valencia, Fiorentina and AC Milan with interest in the Dinamo Zagreb midfielder, Lovro Majer.
And the website adds that Majer, who has two-and-a-half years left on his contract in Croatia, is ‘ready for a new challenge in a more competitive league’.
It is certainly plausible that Leeds could strengthen in the 22-year-old’s position come January, having seen summer moves for Michael Cuisance (then Bayern Munich) and Rodrigo de Paul (Udinese) come to nothing.
It is little more than two years since The Sun claimed the Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was eyeing an £8 million move for Majer, before his eventual move from NK Lokomotiva to Dinamo for around a quarter of the price.

Guardiola, of course, enjoys a respectful relationship with his Leeds United counterpart Marcelo Bielsa.
Majer has scored or assisted 16 goals in 46 games for Dinamo, and has been capped by Croatia at senior level.
