Leeds United remain keen on Swansea City’s Daniel James.
According to The Mirror, Leeds United believe Swansea City will be in a much weaker position to keep Daniel James at the end of the season, and will launch a new move for him.
Leeds brought in two players in the January transfer window, snapping up Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla and Ruch Chorzow midfielder Mateusz Bogusz.
They did attempt to land Swansea winger James, but that turned into a real fiasco, with the Yorkshire Evening Post claiming that James underwent a medical on deadline day but Swansea then refused to sign off on the deal.
James, who hails from Yorkshire, may be gutted about his move falling apart, but he could still become a Leeds player at the end of the season.
That’s because The Mirror claim Leeds are already plotting a new summer move for James, and believe that they will be in a strong position to sign him.
James will be out of contract at the end of next season, so Leeds think that Swansea’s position will be much weaker come the summer, enabling the Whites to finally land their man.
Marcelo Bielsa is believed to be set on James as a talent for the future, so even no matter whether Leeds go up or stay in the Championship, James remains a top target.
In truth, a summer move may be better anyway. Bielsa’s methods are famously intense, and having James ready for a first pre-season under the Argentinian could be more conducive to his success.
Coming in mid-season and having to adapt quickly may not be ideal for James, so a summer move – after all the deadline day drama has subsided – may suit everybody in the end.
