Leeds United are now reportedly paying towards Izzy Brown’s wages.

According to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds are now paying towards Izzy Brown’s wages as the attacking midfielder seemingly closes in on making his first-team debut for the Whites.

Leeds’ decision to sign the Chelsea ace in the summer was always going to be a roll of the dice. After his previous loan spell ended early due to injury, the Whites knew that they would not be able to unleash the youngster for several months as he continued his recovery.

Much of the risk was taken out of the deal however, as the Yorkshire Evening Post reports that his parent club were willing to cover his wages while he worked his way back towards full fitness.

But with Brown now playing for the under-23s at Thorp Arch, the Yorkshire Evening Post adds that Leeds are now contributing.

And with that, the move arguably starts to become a gamble for the Championship leaders. There is plenty of time still to go in the season, but it is not clear how far Marcelo Bielsa deems Brown to be from being ready for his senior bow.

He is contributing goals for the under-23s – he scored the winning goal against Sheffield United this week – but Bielsa recently spoke about Brown needing around six games before he is match sharp (via Yorkshire Evening Post).

That would suggest that it is still a few weeks before Brown is ready to step up. And by then, there appears to be every chance that the promotion race will be heating up and Leeds will be key protagonists in it.

That would arguably add to the risk of using Brown if he is still awaiting his first-team debut by that stage. But if he continues to impress while he is featuring for Carlos Corberan’s side, then there will seemingly be every chance that he will prove to be worth the wait.
