Leeds United had an offer of £25 million rejected by Tottenham Hotspur for Juan Foyth, according to Mundo Deportivo, with the seldom-seen Argentina international potentially on his way to Fulham instead.

It’s fair to say the 22-year-old will have his work cut out if he makes the short trip from north London to Craven Cottage before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Only one team in Premier League history have conceded more goals than Fulham (ten) in their first three games since promotion – Slaven Bilic’s West Brom, strangely enough.

Scott Parker’s error-strewn side were humbled once again in Monday’s 3-0 thumping by Aston Villa and, as disgruntled co-owner Tony Khan made clear at full time, defensive reinforcements can’t come soon enough.

Foyth would surely be tempted by a fresh start – even if Fulham already look destined for a relegation dogfight (Telegraph).

The former Estudiantes youngster has played just 46 minutes of Premier League football since Jose Mourinho took over from Mauricio Pochettino almost a year ago, and remains conspicuous by his absence this season.

Remarkably, Spurs could earn a gigantic profit on a man who has struggled to establish himself in England.

MD reports that Leeds had a stunning £25 million offer rejected before turning their attention to Diego Llorente.

A Spain international with a fine track record in La Liga, Llorente is not only a superior footballer, he’s also way cheaper than Foyth would be.

Yes, the ‘Premier League premium’ is a very real thing.

But while £25 million-plus would be an eye-watering fee, top-flight survival is priceless as far as Fulham are concerned.
