The Guardian claim that Huddersfield Town manager Carlos Corberan is using ‘murderball’ in his training sessions – amid reports that Leeds are considering a move. Corberan worked under Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road.
Corberan, 38, is starring as Huddersfield Town. His last starting line-up cost a combined £1million, but despite that, the Spaniard has guided his side to a lofty fifth place in the Championship. They are unbeaten in 15 games.
The Telegraph reported earlier this month that Corberan is one of three names being considered by Leeds – along with Jesse Marsch and Ernesto Valverde. Corberan, though, is the only one of those contracted to a club.
But he did work under Bielsa, as both a first-team coach and a regular face in the dugout – as well as Under-23 manager for three years. A feature from the Guardian states he uses the same murderball tactic Bielsa does at Leeds.
“Corberán is as he is on the touchline – intense and animated. Training is full tilt too, especially during ‘Murderball’, a gruelling drill synonymous with Bielsa. Fouls are allowed to run and the ball never goes out of play.”

Bielsa’s standing in the game means he has numerous followers throughout the world. Some of his coaching staff, Diego Flores for example, worship Bielsa and moved heaven and earth to get a place on his coaching staff.
Corberan – like Mauricio Pochettino, Pep Guardiola and other high-profile names – have used Bielsa’s methods and tactics and adopted their own approach. Corberan is slightly more defensive-minded, at Huddersfield.
That could be down to a smaller squad, with less high-profile names and a smaller budget. But he is performing miracles with the Terriers squad. Should Leeds come calling? They could do a whole lot worse.
