Leeds United reportedly want to sign the Middlesbrough hitman.

Willian of Chelsea close down Patrick Bamford of Middlesbrough during the Premier League match between Chelsea and Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge on May 8, 2017 in London, England.

According to a report from Sky Sports (live transfer blog, July 28th, 18:54), Leeds have a agreed a fee that could eventually rise to £10 million with Middlesbrough for the signing of Patrick Bamford.

Leeds are in desperate need of a new centre-forward, but is Bamford the type of player Marcelo Bielsa needs? And more to the point, would he be worth £10 million?

The 24-year-old joined Boro on a permanent £6 million deal from Chelsea in January 2017, but he has hardly been prolific on Teesside, with just 14 goals in 53 appearances to his name.

His career goalscoring record makes for pretty grim reading too, with just 62 goals scored in 188 career senior appearances in all competitions.

Bamford is technically sound, but his end product is less than impressive.

The former Chelsea forward has registered just 19 assists during his career to date, and besides decent link-up play, it is hard to see what he actually brings to his team.

£10 million seems to be an extortionate amount to pay for a striker with such an underwhelming record in front of goal, especially considering the fact that Middlesbrough paid just £6 million for his services 18 months ago.

If Bamford does swap the Riverside for Elland Road for the reported fee of £10 million, the Teesside outfit would surely be laughing all the way to the bank, having used Leeds’ desperation for a striker to their advantage.
