Leeds’ reported interest in Tottenham star Juan Foyth is bad news for current Whites star

Leeds are said to be interested in Foyth once again ahead of the January window.

Leeds United are said to be ready to reignite their interest in Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Juan Foyth in the January transfer window, after reports suggested Foyth wants out if he continues to be overlooked.

The Evening Standard claimed on Thursday afternoon that the 20-year-old is growing frustrated at remaining on the sidelines as the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez remain first choice.

Almost immediately after the Standard’s report, Argentine outlet AS claimed that Marcelo Bielsa is desperate to bring the youngster to Elland Road – who was called up to Argentina’s national squad during the most recent break.

Since his move to Spurs in 2017, Foyth has been made to wait for chances and was linked with a move to Leeds in the most recent window – with the Argentine connection between Foyth, Bielsa and Mauricio Pochettino likely to be utilised.

But with a move looking perhaps more likely with Foyth keen to go and Leeds keen to sign him, does Bielsa’s interest in the impressive young defender suggest that he has lost patience with injury-prone star Conor Shaughnessy?

The 22-year-old broke into the Leeds side last season, coming off the bench in the Whites’ first game of the season in a 3-2 win over Bolton Wanderers. He was in and out of the side, clocking up 14 appearances.

But in February, his steady breakthrough suffered a blow as he was ruled out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury. Returning only in September, Shaughnessy was withdrawn at half-time against Preston in the Carabao Cup.

He then suffered an injury playing for the club’s Under-23 side in the same game in which Patrick Bamford injured his knee. It is clear that Shaughnessy is injury prone, but has Bielsa lost his patience?

If the interest in Foyth is indeed real, then it would suggest that Bielsa is unwilling to give any more time to Shaughnessy and wants to make a new signing instead.
