Barry Douglas hasn’t really hit the heights since arriving at Leeds United and the Championship table-toppers are linked with Premier League defender Mings.

Barry Douglas of Leeds United looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Middlesbrough at Elland Road on August 31, 2018 in Leeds, England.

By his own admission, Barry Douglas has not quite lived up to expectations since his high-profile arrival at Leeds United in the summer.

The Scottish full-back was one of the star players as Wolves won the Championship title last season, producing a league-high 14 assists with his wand of a left-foot, meaning plenty of excitement accompanied his £5 million move to Elland Road (Yorkshire Evening Post).

But Douglas is yet to show his best form in Leeds colours, producing just three assists so far. And he even apologised to supporters on Twitter in the aftermath of the 4-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest on New Year’s Day.

So with the former Dundee United ace showing admirable levels of self-awareness, he should be concerned about reports from The Mail (23 January, page 65) which claim that Leeds have joined the race to join Tyrone Mings on loan from Bournemouth.

The £8 million man, who is also being courted by Aston Villa, West Brom and Nottingham Forest, has largely played at centre-half under Eddie Howe but he made his name as a left-back during his formative years at Ipswich Town.

In fact, former Tractor Boys boss Mick McCarthy told SportsMole that Mings was the best left-back in the division during the 2014/15 campaign.

So Douglas will know that he needs to up his game and fast. Youngsters Leif Davis and Tom Pearce are one thing but Mings is a proven, established Championship player.
