Marcelo Bielsa gave his first press conference as a Premier League manager yesterday.
The Leeds boss is preparing his side for a baptism of fire tomorrow. After 16 years out of the top flight, the Whites’ first game back is away at champions Liverpool.
Bielsa hasn’t overseen a window of frantic spending, but shrewd additions Robin Koch and Rodrigo have arrived already.
As per Leeds Live, the Argentine gave an update on the fitness of the pair yesterday.
On his new boys, Bielsa said: “They are two players who have the correct level to play in the Premier League. If there’s going to be any new signings we will let you know in due time.”
When asked if they were up to Bielsa’s famously demanding fitness levels, he responded: “Yes, they are in very good physical condition ahead of the game.”
So while Bielsa sometimes takes time to integrate new arrivals, that raises the very real prospect that both men will be thrown in from the off against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.
It’s a straight choice between Patrick Bamford and Rodrigo up front and those comments make it more likely the Spaniard will get the nod.
Otherwise, it will be much of the same for Leeds. There are selection decisions at left back and central midfield, with Stuart Dallas capable of filling both roles.
We’ve got Pablo Hernandez starting in the middle of the park, but it could be that Tyler Roberts’ energy is preferred.
