Leeds United may need a midfielder to replace Ronaldo Vieira.
Ronaldo Vieira has sealed his exit from Leeds United, which could net the club a reported £6.2 million [via SkySports].
It is a gamble by Leeds to sell the midfielder, who was not in manager Marcelo Bielsa’s immediate plans for next season, because they will still need a replacement to bulk up the squad’s depth.
Fortunately Leeds may have already identified a replacement, having had a bid turned down for Taras Romanczuk in the past week.
Romanczuk is a Poland international who Daily Mail report Leeds had an offer of £1.2 million turned down for by his homeland club Jagiellonia Białystok.
Selling Ronaldo Vieira gives the Whites extra cash, and a more immediate need to revive their interest and return with an improved offer.
Romanczuk, 26, is more experienced than Vieira and also more specialised in terms of being tactically astute and focused on playing as a defensive midfielder.
With countryman Mateusz Klich showing in pre-season he can handle a more attacking role, Leeds have a need for a defensive minded player added to their midfield, especially with Kalvin Phillips potentially being used in defence.
Returning for Romanczuk would let Leeds sign a Vieira replacement and save millions in cash, which could be spent on further attacking or defensive reinforcements.
If he turns out to be an upgrade, or a player who has more trust from Bielsa than Vieira would have, then it would be a masterstroke by the Whites.
