Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson’s future remains in question heading into the summer, with Swedish newspaper Expressen reporting Liverpool are keen.

The Reds have struggled defensively under Jurgen Klopp and his attempts to patch up the backline have so far only mitigated the problems rather than solving them.

Ragnar Klavan is an example of this, with the £4.2 million Estonian international only looking like a stop gap at the back.

Jansson would be an upgrade on Klavan, with his tough tackling approach and aerial ability making him clearly look too good for Championship football.

The Swedish international has personality too, and has thrived playing under pressure at Elland Road.

He has bought into the history of the club and galvanised the fanbase, but could find Liverpool fans just as welcoming.

It is easy to imagine Jansson leading renditions of You’ll Never Walk Alone and becoming a terrace hero at Liverpool, if he is swayed to leave Leeds.

Chelsea, Tottenham and Southampton have all been linked to the centre-back, yet Liverpool are the team and club at which Jansson fits best.

Leeds hold the power after agreeing to make his loan permanent in the summer, meaning Liverpool will have to spend big to sign him up. The charismatic Jansson might just be worth a big investment.
