Two Leeds United stars were nominated for the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award, but Pontus Jansson suggested only one deserved the recognition.

Pontus Jansson reacted on Twitter to the news that he had been nominated for the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award for December by telling all of his followers to vote for Leeds teammate Pablo Hernandez.

Jansson was a colossus during the month. Marcelo Bielsa’s side looked like they were going to be in for a long Christmas period as Liam Cooper sustained an injury in their first match in December.

But Leeds won five of the six games that they played in that period, keeping two clean sheets during that spell. And Jansson’s form was a key reason for their success.

As well as enjoying arguably his best run of form in defence since joining Leeds, Jansson also proved to be a threat going forward. He scored the equaliser in the stunning 3-2 comeback win at Aston Villa, and caused all sorts of problems in the final third after Leeds had gone 2-1 down in the 90th minute at home to Blackburn.

Once again, Leeds won 3-2.

So it will have surprised no-one that he has been nominated, alongside Tammy Abraham, Jarrod Bowen, Teemu Pukki, Marco Stiepermann and Whites teammate Hernandez.

But in response to the announcement that he had been nominated, Jansson graciously suggested that he is not the player that the fans should be voting for…

Hernandez would also be a very worthy winner. The Spaniard scored the winner against Sheffield United and provided five assists in December.

Leeds fans may also feel that Jansson’s message is significant because it provides another indication of the unity amongst the squad. There seems to be a feeling that any success any one player enjoys is down to the team, and thus, they seem quite content to not be singled out ahead of the other members of the squad.
