Leeds United served up their best performance of the season so far as they defeated Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Whites had claimed just one point from their first three Championship games this season, and were far from favourites to claim a win over promotion-chasing Wednesday at Hillsborough.

However, Leeds impressed against the Owls, scoring with their two shots on target in the game as Marcus Antonsson headed home Hadi Sacko’s cross, before Chris Wood diverted Kemar Roofe’s ball into the net.

Leeds stood strong defensively and took their chances when they came in an impressive win for manager Garry Monk, who has already had questions about his future at Elland Road.

Whites fans are unsurprisingly delighted with Saturday’s win, and the Leeds players feel the same way judging by their reactions on Twitter after the final whistle.

Goalkeeper Robert Green praised Antonsson and Wood for finding the back of the net, celebrated a valuable clean sheet, and suggested the team’s standards are improving in every game whilst also hailing the Leeds fans for their support.

Liam Cooper suggested that Leeds were ‘different class’ against Wednesday, and responded to a message of support from former Leeds ace Simon Walton.

Forward Sacko and Roofe also took to Twitter after notching assists, with Sacko celebrating three points and Roofe supporting his former West Brom team-mate Wood after he again proved his doubters wrong with a goal.
