Leeds United’s Under-23 side secured a 1-1 draw against Mansfield in the Premier League Cup on Monday afternoon, in Andrew Taylor’s first match as the second string’s interim replacement for Mark Jackson.

Leeds needed to avoid defeat to progress into the knockout rounds, with the prize of a clash against West Ham’s Under-23 side next. Joe Littlewood cancelled out Danny Johnson’s opener, and here are our player ratings:

Dani van den Heuvel – 7

Solid, excellent distribution both with the ball at his feet and throwing out. Had little to do other than the goal, which he could do little about.

Harvey Sutcliffe – 7

Excellent going forward and put a couple of good deliveries into the box. Hard-working, and made a couple of good tackles.

Kris Moore – 9

At 18, the elder statesmen of the 23’s defence. Absolutely rock-solid, strong in the tackle, excellent on the ball. Did not put a foot wrong all afternoon.

Joe Littlewood – 7

Overshadowed by Moore in defence, but still comfortable enough. 29-year-old Johnson gave him a test – but did score the all-important equaliser.

Liam McCarron – 9

On his 21st birthday, the left-back was superb. His energy, running up and down, he was arguably the biggest threat all game. Superb display.

Joe Snowdon – 6

Largely a passenger throughout the game but kept the ball ticking when in possession. Perhaps could have taken a few more risks going forward.

Jack Jenkins – 5

Struggled. Bobbly conditions did not help. He slipped – almost conceding in first 45. Pass in second to set Mateo Fernandez free overcooked.

Stuart McKinstry – 4

Failed to have any kind of impact throughout the match and was a struggle to actually notice the Scottish winger was even on the pitch.

Charlie Allen – 7

Got into some excellent positions as no.10. Had two superb chances, both efforts tame and straight at keeper, before pinging an effort off the bar.

Amari Miller – 5

Couple of bursts of speed but failed to show any kind of end product. Not a display he will remember – subbed after 69 minutes.

Max Dean – 8

A player that is going to have a future at Leeds. Lovely turn and shot on the edge, a constant nightmare for the Mansfield defence. Deserved a goal.

Subs:

Mateo Fernandez – 7

Keenan Carole – 6
