Leeds United forward Tyler Roberts has not exactly earned rave reviews from the national press in Wales, after his performance against Bulgaria.

The Leeds man was selected to start up-front for his country last night, but only had a limited impact.

Roberts did feature for 90 minutes as Wales picked up a 1-0 win, but the Leeds man didn’t pose much of a threat to the Bulgarian defence.

And he was only giving a rating of five out of 10 for his display.

“The Leeds man struggled to make an impact, with Wales adopting false nine tactics,” Wales Online wrote.

“Giggs kept him on, but Wales missed Kieffer Moore’s bustling presence up top and his ability to link play.”

Roberts will surely argue that he wasn’t given a great deal of supply, as Wales struggled to break down a stubborn Bulgarian backline.

However, the Leeds man will need to be more influential on future matches if he is forge a career for himself as a number nine.

Roberts spoke this week to the BBC about how he wanted to play up-front more regularly as his career develops, but he will need to improve on last night’s performance if he is to convince Marcelo Bielsa he is ready to lead the line for Leeds.

Roberts is likely to be on the bench for Leeds on Monday, when they take on Wolves.
