Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he is ‘fitter and stronger’ than he was even before lockdown.
That is a scary prospect for the rest of the Championship and great news for Leeds, as their return to action draws ever closer.
Phillips had been nursing a slight injury prior to the break in play, with Leeds having to manage his game-time.
But the 24-year-old is now raring to go again, and feels that he actually has improved his fitness over lockdown.
“If anything, I’m probably fitter and stronger than I was before the pandemic,” Phillips said.
“I missed the last couple of games with a sore knee. The first week or so (of lockdown) gave you time to recover.
“When you’re training around mannequins and cones you get a little bit bored of it. It’s good to be around some of the lads and working as you were before.”

Phillips and the rest of the Leeds squad will be hoping that their momentum hasn’t been halted by the break.
Leeds had a wobble early on in the calendar year, but had put together a run of five wins in a row prior to the suspension of play.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side now return to action as the heavy favourites to go on and achieve promotion.
Leeds are currently seven points clear in the automatic promotion spaces, with just nine games left to play.
