Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has taken to Twitter to praise the Whites’ win over Wigan Athletic and single Patrick Bamford out for praise after the striker bagged a brace in the 2-0 triumph at the DW Stadium.
The 25-year-old forward’s first goal came on 34 minutes as a cross from the left was headed by Adam Forshaw and, although it ricocheted off the post, it fell kindly to the former Middlesbrough man, who duly tapped in from point-blank range.
Bamford’s second came not long after the hour mark, as a dismissed penalty shout – Pablo Hernandez’s cross appeared to be handled out for a corner – nonetheless ended up eventually doubling the Leeds lead, the set piece not being cleared by Wigan, allowing the Whites marksman to bundle home at the near post.
The Grantham-born striker now has three goals in three Championship games, having also netted in the league opener against Bristol City, and his latest goalscoring display will do his confidence the world of good, having previously come under criticism by some sections of the Leeds fanbase.
