Leeds United are seeing Jay-Roy Grot show real promise this season.

Leeds United-owned forward Jay-Roy Grot has been called up to the Netherlands Under-21 side for the first time – and has been quoted by Voetbal Primeur as saying that he is nervous about the situation.
The Whites pounced to land Grot from NEC Nijmegen in the summer of 2017, paying a reported £1.5million (The Express) for the burly forward having shown promise in the Netherlands.
Grot’s first season at Elland Road didn’t exactly go to plan though, as he scored just one goal in 23 games in all competitions, leaving fans wondering why he was brought to West Yorkshire in the first place.
Marcelo Bielsa decided that the 20-year-old wasn’t going to make an impact this season, and subsequently sent him out on loan to VVV-Venlo in his native Netherlands for this season.
Grot has been making an impression, notching two goals and one assist in 11 Eredivisie outings, and it seems that his displays this season have caught the eye.
Grot – a regular for the Netherlands at Under-17 and Under-19 levels – has been included in the Under-21 squad for the first time, marking a huge moment for his career as he looks to put a poor first season at Leeds behind him.

Now, Grot has been quoted as saying that he was delighted when he found out the news on Friday, but has jitters because he’s going to play with new players and for a new coach, but he is also excited about the prospect, as he is about to make his Under-21 debut; all of which suggests he may just grow to have a future at Leeds after all.
“I received an e-mail on Friday that I had been included in the final selection,” said Grot. “When I drove away at the club I saw it, then I cheered for myself, yes, of course I first checked if nobody saw me.”
“It is still a step up. I was hoping that I would be selected, but I never assume, then you’re more than happy that you’re in. I’m getting a bit of a jitter because I’m going to play with new guys and I get another trainer. But I especially like it a lot,” he added.
