Marcus Antonsson joined Blackburn Rovers on a season-long loan deal from Leeds United in the summer transfer window.
Antonsson joined Leeds from Kalmar FF in the summer of 2016 for a transfer fee reported by The Yorkshire Post to be worth £2 million.
The 26-year-old striker failed to make a major impact at Elland Road last season, as he scored just one goal in 16 Championship appearances for the Whites.
The Swedish striker joined Blackburn on a season-long loan deal from Leeds in the summer of 2017.
Antonsson is doing well at Rovers, scoring eight goals in 30 games for the League One club, according to The Lancashire Telegraph.
The 26-year-old has said that he wants to carry on playing in England, and told The Lancashire Telegraph when asked about his future: “I want to focus on the last seven games here to win promotion with Blackburn and after that I can focus on what is going to happen next year. It’s been very good for me.”
“To play football in England is an honour and for me that’s the place to be as a footballer,” added Antonsson.
“It’s perfect, the passion from the fans and the quality in the games. I love playing in England and hopefully I can do that for many years.”
Leeds United future?
Antonsson is doing well at Blackburn, who are likely to win automatic promotion to the Championship from League One at the end of the season.
It would not be a bad idea for the 26-year-old to make his loan deal at Rovers permanent in the summer, or maybe remain at Ewood Park on loan for the first half of next season.
Leeds could be making some major changes to their squad in the summer transfer window after yet another disappointing season, and it would be hard to Antonsson to establish himself in the Whites’ first team.
