Leeds United youngster Mallik Wilks has made a blistering start to life out on loan.
Heading into this season, it did appear that Mallik Wilks may find himself quite far down the exciting pecking order consisting of young strikers currently on Leeds’ books.
The 19-year-old has not played for the Whites since making his debut during Garry Monk’s tenure and spent the majority of last season out on loan. His stints with Accrington Stanley and Grimsby allowed him to display promise, but he failed to really make a statement to his parent club while away, especially given that Ryan Edmondson and Sam Dalby both enjoyed very promising years in the youth teams.
It appeared that there may be some question marks regarding his future prospects at Leeds when he was allowed to join Doncaster Rovers on loan this summer.
However, just two games into his spell with Donny, it now appears to be something of an accidental masterstroke from Leeds to agree a loan deal that only runs until January.
Wilks has scored two excellent goals in his opening two league games for the third tier side, helping them to three points on both occasions. His start has seen him receive praise from Doncaster and Leeds fans alike, and a continuation of anything like this form would have to send a message to Marcelo Bielsa.
If he can keep his game at something like its current level for the duration of his loan, he could provide a huge boost to Leeds’ squad whatever position the side is in at the turn of the year.
He could feel like a new signing for Bielsa’s men if he does come back in January, and that confidence may be able to help him hit the ground running should he get a chance in the Whites’ first-team at some stage this season.
