Southampton striker Che Adams is now attracting renewed interest from Leeds United in a transfer. Whites boss Jesse Marsch had targeted the Scotland forward back in the summer.

That is according to The Guardian, which reports the Elland Road side are now considering reinforcing their attack in January. Leeds are unlikely to be overly active in the mid-season sales with funds tight in West Yorkshire. But the Whites are aware of their issues in attack.

Patrick Bamford has struggled to rediscover the form he showed during Leeds’ first season back in the Premier League. The 29-year-old scored 17 and created a further eight goals in 38 matches in 2020/21. But after a raft of injuries, Bamford has only played half that since.

So, Leeds are considering targeting a striker in January and a transfer for Southampton star Adams is one option. The Whites have fashioned a shortlist of forwards for Marsch to mull over for January. But there are no guarantees that funds are available to sign a new striker.

Leeds explored a transfer for Southampton striker Che Adams in the summer

Adams was on Leeds’ radar for a transfer from Southampton back in the summer following Bamford’s myriad of problems. The Whites’ £10m arrival from Middlesbrough in 2018 only played nine league fixtures last term for two goals after anklehamstring, and foot injuries.

So, the Daily Mail reported in August that Leeds were among the clubs considering Adams’ transfer from Southampton. The 26-year-old was also open to leaving St Mary’s but he was interested in joining Everton. Wolves and Nottingham Forest were also among his suitors.

Yet, in the end, Adams stayed on the south coast after Ben Jacobs noted Southampton told Everton to pay £25m. The Toffees had explored a late loan deal for the Saints’ £15m arrival from Birmingham City in 2019. His £52k-a-week deal at St Mary’s does not expire to 2024.

Adams has also remained a key player at Southampton since the Saints fended off interest from Leeds and Everton in his transfer. So, Marsch could again face a fight to land a 22-cap striker whom Rangers and Scotland legend Ally McCoist sung the praises of back in March.

“First and foremost, we now have a striker who is a first pick every week for a very good team in the English Premier League,” McCoist said, via the Daily Record. “It’s been a long time since a Scotland manager has had that luxury.

“Adams has started his international career really positively and has scored in the last two games against Moldova and Denmark. Apart from that, his general play has been terrific.”
