Elland Road captain Liam Cooper is yet to feature in a Premier League side so far this term. Manager Jesse Marsch is also waiting on Luke Ayling and Junior Firpo to return to fitness in West Yorkshire, and Stuart Dallas also remains a long-term absentee as deadline day nears.

So, Leeds are considering making Sheffield United an offer to sign Egan, as club chiefs feel they could prise him from the Blades. The 26-cap Republic of Ireland international has two years remaining on his contract at Bramall Lane, but is a vital presence in South Yorkshire.
Egan has started in all seven of Sheffield United’s Championship fixtures so far this season. He also captained the Blades in six games for four wins, and assisted Oliver McBurnie in a 1-1 draw with Luton Town to salvage a point after trailing at the break at Kenilworth Road.
Sheffield United will further be loath to let Egan leave Bramall Lane as they target a return to the Premier League. He provided an influential presence in their last promotion in 2018/19, having joined the Blades from Brentford in 2018 in what was their club-record £4m switch.

John Egan can add ‘rock-solid’ Premier League experience to Jesse Marsch’s unit
Egan now boasts 174 games for Sheffield United across all competitions, and has a Premier League pedigree to interest Leeds. He featured 67 times across the Blades’ two seasons in the top-flight from 2019 to 2021, and delivered some outstanding displays to draw praise.
“He’s taken his game to the next level,” former Blades boss Chris Wilder said during August 2020 via quotes by Yorkshire Live. “He’s a rock-solid character who produces performances week-in, week-out against world-class players and on the international stage.”
