Leeds United are now in ‘advanced’ talks to sign Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara after fighting off competition from Championship rivals Middlesbrough and Coventry City for the £5.5 million midfielder.

Rangers manager Mick Beale admitted earlier this month that the Finland international was ‘definitely’ on his way out of Ibrox this month. And, after weeks of speculation linking Glen Kamara with a move south of the border, it seems that there is some light at the end of the tunnel at last.

According to Scottish Sun, Leeds United manager Daniel Farke is closing in on a player he has been ‘desperate’ to sign since taking over at Elland Road. Championship rivals Middlesbrough and Coventry City have held talks with Kamara. But, after a breakthrough in discussions over the last 24 hours, Leeds are now expected to seal a £5.5 million deal for a classy, cultured central midfielder who played a major role as Steven Gerrard’s Rangers stormed to the Scottish Premiership title in 2021.

Talks between Leeds and Kamara, the Sun adds, are now at an ‘advanced’ stage.

Leeds United close in on Rangers’ Glen Kamara

Following the sale of Tyler Adams to AFC Bournemouth, the one-time Arsenal prospect will arrive to add some much-needed depth to a Leeds midfield looking more bare than the toilet roll section of your local Sainsburys at the beginning of a pandemic.

“Every single game Glen plays he’s at least a 7.5 out of 10. He doesn’t give the ball away and he’d give (Leeds) great stability,” former Leeds striker Ross McCormack, who started his career at Rangers but enjoyed his best days in Yorkshire, tells the Daily Mail.

“He’s more than good enough for the level.”

Kamara should ease the burden of expectation on 17-year-old Archie Gray; arguably Leeds’ stand-out performer during a winless start to the new season.

“He’s got over 50 caps, and played regularly for Rangers in Europe. What he can pass on to young players like Gray is invaluable,” McCormack adds.

“Glen would be a great addition. He’d have a steadying influence; a good pro that could lead by example and help keep everyone together.

“Defensive midfielders aren’t really recognised as stars in the Championship. But he can really help the young boys around the team.

“I thought he’d be perfect for Michael Beale at Rangers. But it’s obviously not working out there. And he more than deserves the chance to return to England after the service he’s given the club.

“If they get a few million, it’s a good deal for all parties. It’s definitely worth Leeds taking the chance.”
