Leeds United are facing difficulty signing Todd Cantwell from Norwich City, Victor Orta has confirmed to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Cantwell has emerged as a Leeds target, with the Whites searching for a central midfielder.

The £15 million-rated Norwich man (Press Association) excelled in the Premier League last term, when his technique and creativity shone through, despite being part of a Norwich side who were relegated.

Leeds now appear to feel that he could be an excellent addition to their squad.

However, Orta says that completing a deal for Cantwell is proving to be tricky.

“We know them really well, their clubs were our rivals, we analysed [Cantwell] in the Premier League. But it’s like a lot of players we’ve analysed. It’s difficult,” he said.

“They are players we analysed, we have information and then we need to think about the possibility.”

The comments come after the Daily Star claimed that Leeds were ‘expecting’ to sign the playmaker in the coming days.

From Orta’s quotes it appears that Leeds actually may have to face the disappointment of missing out on the England youth international.

Cantwell would have added skill and poise to Leeds midfield if he was to arrive, and would have taken some of the creative burden off Pablo Hernandez.

But it may be that Leeds have to re-visit the potential transfer in January, unless they find a way to overcome the obstacles involved in completing a deal quickly.
