Leeds United face some surprise competition for the signing of Olympique Marseille talent Pape Gueye, with La Liga side UD Almeria now interested in the Senegal international.

According to Le Phoceen, the Spanish club are keen to sign a second player from Marseille having agreed a deal to loan in Luis Suarez (not that one) for the remainder of the season, with Gueye expected to leave the French giants in the January transfer window.

Sitting 14th in the Spanish top-flight, Almeria already face some strong competition to sign Gueye with Leeds reportedly in the race to land the 23-year-old midfielder as per Jeunes Footeux, with Jesse Marsch keen to add another young all-rounder to his squad in the winter market.

Likened to Juventus superstar Paul Pogba and labelled as ‘gifted’ by Michael Bunel, Le Havre’s academy technical director, Gueye has been around on the scene for quite some time, though the midfielder is yet to cause waves at Marseille despite his obvious potential.

A member of Senegal’s 2022 FIFA World Cup squad that this weekend was eliminated by England, Gueye has the possibility of becoming a top player in the coming years if the midfielder can find the right club to maximise his abilities, and Leeds need to ensure they are this team ahead of Almeria.

Indeed, the Elland Road side can offer the youngster regular playing time in the Premier League as well as a squad that can help Gueye grow as a player, something Almeria might struggle to afford given their unlikely future in La Liga.

Gueye’s future looks set to be decided this January with a departure from Marseille, and it’s up to Leeds to snap the midfielder up with Almeria now looking at signing the Senegal international in a move that could be one of Marsch’s best yet for the Premier League outfit.

As we know, Leeds could do with an extra midfielder in the squad to add more dynamism and youth to an already young squad, and Gueye can provide just that, but only if the Whites have the willpower to win the race for the 23-year-old’s signature.
