Mateusz Klich became Leeds United’s second signing of the summer and first since Thomas Christiansen arrived at Elland Road.
Leeds summer signing Mateusz Klich in action for Poland
Mateusz Klich has suggested to the Yorkshire Evening Post that he would rather not set a personal target for the upcoming season as he would be content with scoring just once if it came during a campaign where Leeds secured promotion.
Klich became the club’s first signing since new Whites boss Thomas Christiansen was appointed at Elland Road, and the club’s second acquisition in the summer overall following Hadi Sacko’s return following last season’s loan.
And with Leeds spending around £1.5 million on Klich (via Yorkshire Evening Post), who is a Poland international and is arriving having played in the Eredivisie this past season, there is surely bound to be plenty of excitement amongst the fans regarding how his arrival could boost the squad’s chances of promotion next term.
But Klich himself has suggested that rather than set a target for the campaign, he would be content to play more of a peripheral role if the team are successful.
“I will not say my target, it’s not really my style,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post when asked about possible personal targets.

“I will just do the best I can and we will see.
“If I score five goals and we play good it would be nice but if I score one goal and we are promoted to the Premier League it’s also good.”
Given his form for Twente this past season, it is difficult to imagine that Klich will not play a prominent role for Leeds as they look to try and better their achievement from last season when they came agonisingly close to securing a play-off spot.
Thomas Christiansen
The midfielder scored six times and contributed four assists in the Dutch top flight, which is the sort of return that Leeds’ central midfielders – who, admittedly, were often deployed in holding roles – could not replicate last year.
And if he can play as well for his new club as he did during his final year in the Netherlands, it is unlikely that the Whites supporters will need to worry too much about how many goals he does score as his quality should hand the side a significant boost anyway.
