Pablo Hernandez joined Leeds United on Tuesday morning.
Leeds United new boy Pablo Hernandez has told LUTV that his move to Elland Road has been in the pipeline for about a month.
The 31-year-old attacker joined Leeds on a six-month loan from Qatar side Al-Arabi on Tuesday, with a view to a permanent deal.
The switch to United came out of left field a little due to a lack of solid speculation building up to his switch, whereas there had been rumours about Leeds’ other six summer signings prior to their arrival.
But Hernandez – who played under and with Garry Monk at Swansea City – has revealed now that his move to the Whites was first brought to him a month ago.
“It’s been a long wait,” he told LUTV. “I had time to think about my future and maybe a month ago the possibility to come here [came up] and it was always in my head.
In Hernandez, Monk has recruited a versatile attacking outlet who can play on either wing – as he did for Swansea – or in a number 10 role, where the 38-year-old manager says he plans to play him.
Leeds kick off their Championship campaign with a trip to Queens Park Rangers on Sunday afternoon in what will be Monk’s first competitive game as United boss.
Ex-Valencia man Hernandez netted five times in 57 Premier League appearances for the Swans.
